Imperfectly Perfect - Handmade Jewellery

Lately I have been falling in love with handcrafted jewellery, especially handcrafted jewellery. It won’t come as a surprise for those who love jewellery. Handcrafted pieces are unique, exquisite and not perfect!

With the help of machines and gadgets you get several similar pieces of jewellery that look the same and feature neat designs that are alike. And hence the rawness and earthiness in the handcrafted jewellery designs is what entices the most. And nothing can beat the charm and beauty of vintage handcrafted jewellery.

Who can forget the elaborate necklaces, bracelets and brooches made from diamonds, gemstones, silver and gold? The oxidized metals give a lovely appearance to the jewellery. Therefore you could see women running to their jewellers and getting accessories made that resemble vintage.

I know a friend who used to buy silver jewellery and purposely oxidise it at home using kitchen cabinet ingredients. She absolutely loved the blackish-brownish effect on the jewellery. And she used to joke saying that with oxidised silver she doesn’t have to take care of it getting rusted.

Vintage handcrafted jewellery come at a price. And unfortunately not everyone can afford that price. But human race always discovers an alternative to almost everything! So the alternative to buying original handcrafted jewellery is making your very own handcrafted accessories.

Yes! You can make beautiful handcrafted jewellery by yourself, which you can also present to your loved ones. Either hunt for shops or best, buy the materials that you would need online. Internet and books will teach you the basics and after learning that you can experiment. Stones, threads, metals, wires, beads, wooden pieces are some of the most common things, using which you can make beautiful jewellery.

So have fun, let all the creative juices flow out and design one-of-a-kind handcrafted jewellery!

Earrings on the Red Carpet!

Not everyone can afford expensive subscriptions of glossy fashion magazines or can decode the fashion lingo that celebrated designers speak. But there are other ways to know ‘what’s in’ and what’s down the trash.

Like for now the awards season is on in a full swing. You can easily guess what is in fashion by observing the stars walking the red carpet. These shows give a sneak peak about the latest trends.
The recent award shows that witnessed many celebrities from the film, television and music industry walking down the red carpet in their best look were Golden Globes, Grammy’s, and the BAFTA.

The piece of jewellery that made its presence greatly felt on these red carpet events is huge earrings.
2012 started with Golden Globes. Here are the three stars that sparkled with their large earrings.
  • Julianne Moore’s deep green emerald tassel earring by Fred Leighton that she was wearing on a black gown.
  • Kate Beckinsale dangling diamond earrings from Lorraine Schwartz
  • 'The Help’ actress Octavia Spencer’s rainbow moonstone earrings are third on the list
After Golden Globes, two back-to-back events happened, Grammys and BAFTA. At the Grammys talent from the music industry were awarded, whereas at the BAFTA various deserving people from the entertainment industry received accolades. In these events also the trend of wearing dangling earrings were spotted.
  •  Christina Ricci’s linear diamond drops were simple gorgeous at the BAFTA.
  • The handsome Colin Firth’s wife Livia Firth’s vintage Cartier diamond and emerald tassel earrings at the BAFTA garnered a lot of attention
  • Other beauty who earrings earned of attention was Carrie Underwood and her diamond drop earrings set on white gold.

So if you look closely at all the red carpet events, it won’t be exaggeration to say that long, dangling earrings are in vogue right now!
