Hard to Resist Amber Jewellery!

‘Organic’ is the buzz word in today’s time! The world is waking up to a healthier way of living and is becoming environmentally conscious. So whether, it is organic food, organic clothes, organic jewellery or other accessories, everything is in vogue. Going the organic way ensures that you get quality products without harming any living being or the environment. If you are a jewellery lover and the ‘organic’ bug has bitten you then here is good news for you. Amber jewellery is the most organic form of jewellery available in the market.

Out of the many gemstones found in nature, amber is the organic one. It is naturally found substance which is formed over a period of time from the tree resin. The formation of amber starts in a liquid form and gradually hardens and takes shape of a stone which is later used to make jewellery. It is most commonly available in the golden orange hue but the rarer varieties such as translucent amber or with a bluish tinge is also much desired.

This beautiful substance is found in several parts of the world. But specifically in the Baltic regions around Russia and Poland, roughly 80% of the amber in the world is to be found.
A substantial produce of amber also comes from countries such as Nigeria, Madagascar, Myanmar, and Indonesia.

Amber in the form jewellery can be made with gold or silver or any other metal of your choice. It complements most of the precious and semi-precious metals, which makes it the most practical piece of accessory to add to your jewellery collection. This jewellery looks best in the form of earrings, rings, and bracelets. In fact amber bracelets are since long used for healing purposes due to the mystical magnetic properties.

No wonder, celebrities like Celine Dion, Sharon Stone and Erica Dasher have been spotted wearing amber jewellery on numerous occasions!

Imperfectly Perfect - Handmade Jewellery

Lately I have been falling in love with handcrafted jewellery, especially handcrafted jewellery. It won’t come as a surprise for those who love jewellery. Handcrafted pieces are unique, exquisite and not perfect!

With the help of machines and gadgets you get several similar pieces of jewellery that look the same and feature neat designs that are alike. And hence the rawness and earthiness in the handcrafted jewellery designs is what entices the most. And nothing can beat the charm and beauty of vintage handcrafted jewellery.

Who can forget the elaborate necklaces, bracelets and brooches made from diamonds, gemstones, silver and gold? The oxidized metals give a lovely appearance to the jewellery. Therefore you could see women running to their jewellers and getting accessories made that resemble vintage.

I know a friend who used to buy silver jewellery and purposely oxidise it at home using kitchen cabinet ingredients. She absolutely loved the blackish-brownish effect on the jewellery. And she used to joke saying that with oxidised silver she doesn’t have to take care of it getting rusted.

Vintage handcrafted jewellery come at a price. And unfortunately not everyone can afford that price. But human race always discovers an alternative to almost everything! So the alternative to buying original handcrafted jewellery is making your very own handcrafted accessories.

Yes! You can make beautiful handcrafted jewellery by yourself, which you can also present to your loved ones. Either hunt for shops or best, buy the materials that you would need online. Internet and books will teach you the basics and after learning that you can experiment. Stones, threads, metals, wires, beads, wooden pieces are some of the most common things, using which you can make beautiful jewellery.

So have fun, let all the creative juices flow out and design one-of-a-kind handcrafted jewellery!

Not everyone can afford expensive subscriptions of glossy fashion magazines or can decode the fashion lingo that celebrated designers speak. But there are other ways to know ‘what’s in’ and what’s down the trash.

Like for now the awards season is on in a full swing. You can easily guess what is in fashion by observing the stars walking the red carpet. These shows give a sneak peak about the latest trends.
The recent award shows that witnessed many celebrities from the film, television and music industry walking down the red carpet in their best look were Golden Globes, Grammy’s, and the BAFTA.

The piece of jewellery that made its presence greatly felt on these red carpet events is huge earrings.
2012 started with Golden Globes. Here are the three stars that sparkled with their large earrings.
  • Julianne Moore’s deep green emerald tassel earring by Fred Leighton that she was wearing on a black gown.
  • Kate Beckinsale dangling diamond earrings from Lorraine Schwartz
  • 'The Help’ actress Octavia Spencer’s rainbow moonstone earrings are third on the list
After Golden Globes, two back-to-back events happened, Grammys and BAFTA. At the Grammys talent from the music industry were awarded, whereas at the BAFTA various deserving people from the entertainment industry received accolades. In these events also the trend of wearing dangling earrings were spotted.
  •  Christina Ricci’s linear diamond drops were simple gorgeous at the BAFTA.

Most Bizarre Rings!

No two minds think alike! So you have the conventional things around us created by people who think just like you and me. Then there are some really different minds that take creativity to another level and come up with something really unique and beautiful!  And then there are people who beat everyone in terms of thinking out-of-the-box. Their mind works in a way too different manner, to an extent where their creation can be easily termed as bizarre and absurd!

Here is the list of the most rings ever made!

Shake It Ring: Available in the shape of a salt shaker, this ring is made from acrylic. The salt shaker is 1 inch in size and is set on a silver ring that is adjustable. Not sure how stylish it is but it will surely get you attention!

Tekka Maki Ring: The world sure loves sushi. But would someone want to wear it on their finger. Set on gold or silver ring, this ring features plastic sushi which looks close to the edible ones.

Staircase to Heaven Ring: No matter how strange this ring looks but the designers deserves applause for the thought he has put in. The ring showcases a staircase representing a man’s journey to heaven. There are three man/woman miniatures at the beginning, in the middle and in the end, depicting the different stages in a person’s life.

Nuts and Bolt Rings: A jewellery designer made a set of wedding rings in the shape of nut and bolt. What it represents depends on a person’s imagination because the interpretation would differ from person to person!

These are just few of the many weird rings that you will find as the list is endless! Though we can’t wear them all but it is always fun to even read about them!

A friend wanted to give his wife a diamond and sapphire eternity ring to celebrate the birth of their newborn. Diamond was the obvious choice because it is so pretty! And sapphire because it’s her birthstone. But he was in two minds because his wife is not too fond of the colour blue.

Besides blue there are yellow, pink, purple, green, white (colourless), orange and black sapphires. And not just that, all the colours are available in lighter and darker shades such as from deep pink, deep yellow to peachy pink and daffodil yellow.

Before deciding upon the colour of sapphire you would like to gift your partner, analyse their personality, style and lifestyle. Studying that will give you a fair idea about which colour sapphire you should go for.
Someone who has a very clear mind and precise thinker usually likes the colour yellow. Hence, if your partner fits in the above description then she would love to get yellow sapphire jewellery.

If your women showcases strong maternal instincts and is charming, delicate and gentle then it is most likely that pink is her favourite colour. You can get various hue of pink sapphire ranging for darker ones to the paler ones.
If your partner is patient and modest then green sapphire is the appropriate stone.
